Well-trained employees are a competitive advantage for businesses. Advanced training helps to keep the vocational qualification level up-to-date, to safeguard one's job and to improve one's chances of promotion.
Marc Estapé stands at the lathe and gives his work piece, a conveyor table roll, the right shape. Spiral metal shavings fall down, just like they ought to. No training supervisor looks over the 21-year old's shoulder, "that much trust they do invest in us", says Estapé, even though the lathe is "really very, very expensive." But Estapé is well versed in operating it. He is close to completing his second apprenticeship year as a toolmaker at the Escuela de Aprendices in Barcelona, the apprenticeship school of the automotive manufacturer Seat belonging to the German Volkswagen Group.
The German Federal Employment Agency plans to introduce the instrument of "assisted vocational training" in the context of its initiative "Betriebliche Ausbildung hat Vorfahrt" (In-company training comes first).
Each year, about 50,000 women and men complete an advanced further training programme with the chambers of industry and commerce (IHKs), for example, as a business administrator, certified management accountant or as a qualified foreman or master. These advanced training programmes are established by Vocational Training Act and are on a par with the academic bachelor degree.
The Westeifel Werke workshops of the Lebenshilfe Bitburg, Daun and Prüm (support association for people with disabilities) and their associate institutions are major providers of vocational education and training in the Eifel region. They currently provide within their entire group training for a total of 35 apprentices in seven recognised vocational education and training occupations.
Ecuador, with its many natural resources, commands a huge development potential. However, the lack of well-trained qualified professionals impedes the development of infrastructure and the economy. National and international businesses have difficulty in finding qualified personnel.
